Best exchanges for altcoins

By Vetted Exchanges Editorial Team

Altcoin trading is a liquidity problem before it is a listings problem. Any venue can list two thousand tokens; few can fill a $5,000 order in one of them without moving the price.

This list weights listing breadth and realised liquidity together, and treats a long catalogue with empty books as the liability it is.

5 exchanges, ranked on the altcoins weighting.

What this ranking optimises for

  • Liquidity (2.2×) and product breadth (2.0×) lead the score
  • Fees weighted next, since altcoin traders round-trip more often
  • Security still carries weight — long-tail venues disclose least
  • Only venues with a substantial mid-cap catalogue are eligible

Frequently asked questions

Is it safe to buy newly listed tokens?

A new listing is the riskiest moment in an asset’s life: thin books, wide spreads and a high share of the supply held by insiders. Size accordingly.

Why do prices differ between exchanges for the same altcoin?

Because each order book is separate. Thin books drift from each other until arbitrage closes the gap, and on small caps that can take a while.
